I’ve recently started to expand my line of beaded Yorkshire Terrier jewelry. Here is my first pair of tiny bead-embroidered Yorkie earrings w/ sterling silver posts:
These earrings were inspired my popular beaded Yorkie pin/pendant. I made them by stitching tiny Japanese glass seed beads to small pieces of felt. The beads are layered to create dimension and realism. The dog ‘hair’ is tiny beaded fringe that actually moves when you touch it. Earrings measure 22mm x 15mm and weigh just 1.5 grams each. The beadwork is extremely detailed for its size. This pair is currently available for sale in my Etsy shop. Please click the photo above for more details:)
I am also running a Labor Day Sale. Now through September 2, 2013, all animal beading patterns and bead embroidery kits are 10%-off the original price. If you are thinking of making holiday gifts for friends and family, this is a great time to start:) Please visit the Beading Kits & Patterns section in my shop for more details. Thanks for your interest in my beadwork & have a wonderful weekend!

Finally, I can get back to working on my current bead painting – my beaded semi truck! I had mostly finished beading all of the parts for my truck, so the next step was to create a passenger – a beaded American Bulldog!
Inspired by my friend’s Bulldog named Diezel, I cut out a small piece of Lacy’s Stiff Stuff. I layered a few pieces of felt on top of the stiff stuff to add dimension. Then, I stitched tiny size 15 seed beads to the felt. The finished piece measures 2 x 2.5cm. After I finished beading Diezel, I stitched him to the inside of my beaded truck.. I also stitched lights to the top of the cab. These are Swarovski crystal rhinestones which I glued to eye pins – an experiment which seems to have worked well! How does it look?
For awhile, I was debating on whether this piece should stand alone or not, but my gut feeling tells me it should be part of a larger painting. So, the other day, I dug out a 20″ x 24″ canvas and spent some time sketching an extended environment for the truck. This sketch is inspired by the original photograph.. Truthfully, I am a little nervous and excited about this one… So…
In the meantime, Diezel has also inspired me to make a pair of Bulldog earrings. These are the same size as the bulldog in the truck. The measure 27mm x 23mm. They are sterling silver post earrings and they are currently available for sale at my Etsy shop. I really like how they turned out, but I think I will also make a dangly pair to compare:) Please see this listing for more photos & details..
This year, I plan to expand my product line just a bit by creating variations on this idea for other breeds.. one bead at a time!
Now, back to my painting.. :O

This week, I am busy preparing for next week’s bead embroidery workshop at Boston Bead Company. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to show you my latest freeform beaded bracelet!
Remember my first lampwork beads I made at Diablo Glass School recently? Well, I experimented by weaving them into one of my freeform peyote stitched cuffs. This piece is well-balanced with one lampwork cylinder bead at the center and two lampwork beads on either side of it. I used a mix of pink, white, blue and gold seed beads. I stitched through the lampwork beads many, many times to ensure that the thread will hold the weight of the piece. And, it does! Click the pic to see more photos. This bracelet measures 7″ so it will fit anyone with a 6″ wrist. It also features a sterling silver slide clasp which makes it easy to put on & take off!
Also, just a quick reminder, you can save 10% off any order in my Etsy shop by using coupon code OCT200. Valid through October 31, 2012! Thanks for your interest in my beadwork!

Over the long holiday weekend, I got a chance to work on a small project for Artbeads.com‘s blogging challenge entitled ‘What’s Old is New Again‘. Artbeads was kind enough to send me a piece of 16g sterling silver half hard wire and some new Toho seed beads! My challenge was to incorporate something old into the design. So, I chose an antique watch face! A few years ago, I picked up a bag full of old watch parts at an antique market in London. I love to use these because, to me, they add a bit of mystery. I always wonder what the watch might have looked like, who wore it, and where they had to be at any given time…
Fairy Tale Flower Pendant (detail). 2.75" (7cm)
For this piece, first I formed a flower shape out of the wire. I stitched the watch face onto a piece of Ultrasuede, and began beading around it. I then used a freeform peyote stitch technique to fill in the flowers’ petals with seed beads. I stitched white beads onto the front of the flower, and a green seed bead mix onto the reverse side. This really adds visual depth to the piece! After I completed the beadwork, I added a brown leather cord. This is definitely one of the more unique art pieces I have ever created. It almost looks like something out of Alice in Wonderland, but not quite.. So, I decided to call it a Fairy Tale Flower Pendant, and I listed it in my Etsy shop. What does it remind you of? :D
