Make a Hot Pink Beaded Cameo Pendant

Boston Bead Company is offering an exclusive bead embroidery workshop with me on Saturday, February 9! Learn how to do basic bead embroidery and peyote stitch while making this hot pink cameo pendant. This project uses size 8 & size 11 Czech glass seed beads, so it is suitable for beginners, although any prior needlework experience you may have had will be helpful.. My First Beading Class!

Yesterday’s bead embroidery workshop at Boston Bead Company was great! I thought I would be nervous, (since the class sold out AND it was my first time teaching) but I really wasn’t nervous at all. I came prepared with felt poodle forms for everyone to bead, as well as several examples which were partially beaded to show each section as we worked. The shop manager (who also took the class) said my examples helped a lot!

For me, it was interesting to see the differences in everyone’s skill level and their approach to learning. One student had already taken several classes from some of my fav. bead artists. One was taking notes as I explained things to her, and one was determined to finish her piece no matter what! Overall it was a very good experience. Two of my students actually finished their pieces within the allotted time, and the others left feeling inspired to keep beading! I have a feeling there will be more bead embroidery classes in the future:)

Meet The Lone Beader @ Boston Bead Company!

I am thrilled to announce that Boston Bead Company has invited me to do an artist reception later this month! Please join me on Thursday, September 27 from 6:30pm-8pm to help kick off the bead shop’s Seed Bead Trunk Show. I will be showing plenty of beaded dog jewelry for humans and a few bead-paintings, which will be also be available for sale! Cambridge Art Association’s 11th National Prize Show

Today, I am thrilled to announce that my beaded military tank entitled Imminence of War has been accepted into Cambridge Art Association’s 11th National Prize show. Juried by Clara Kim of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, The National Prize Show will feature artists working in all media and styles.

Exhibition runs May 31st – July 5th, 2012.

Reception: Friday, June 8th, 5:30-7:30pm at both CAA Gallery locations:

Fire Polished Eyes

Until I finish unpacking all of my beads and set up a more permanent work space, I will be concentrating on smaller projects. My latest piece will be a beaded portrait of a friend named Geoff.

Geoff is an optometrist at Central Square Eye Care in Cambridge, MA. He was kind enough to provide me with a bag of used eyeglass lenses to use for beading projects. So, I thought it appropriate to create a beaded portrait of him similar to my self-portrait entitled iMac Insomniac. Several months ago, I took a picture of him, and then worked on the above colored-pencil sketch.

So far, I am using larger Czech glass beads then I usually do, but I plan to use tiny seed beads for the rest. We’ll see how it turns out! Back to beading! B)

Northeast Prize Show 2011

Over the weekend, I delivered my ‘Time Traveler Trilogy‘ paintings to the Cambridge Art Association. My beaded triptych has been juried into the Cambridge Art Association‘s Northeast Prize Show!

The Northeast Prize Show is an annual juried art exhibit which features artists from all New England states working in all media and styles, including beadwork:) This year’s exhibition was juried by Theodore Stebbins, Curator of American Art at Harvard University’s Fogg Museum! 111 pieces were selected out of over 725 entries!

You’re invited to attend:

Announcing 2 Upcoming Exhibitions!

This week, I’m thrilled to announce 2 upcoming juried exhibitions where my beadwork will be shown. One on the West Coast & one on the East Coast!

A couple weeks ago, I learned that my beaded Buell X-1 Lightning motorcycle entitled ‘Free Parking Spot‘ has been juried into Thunder at CAM – Motorcycles & Art! The exhibition takes place June 10- July 23, 2011 at Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon. My beadwork will be displayed along with a large selection of classic motorcycles from all eras! This exhibition will occupy both floors of the museum and promises to be a major motorcycle art event! B)

Also today, I learned that my beaded DeLorean paintings – ‘Time Traveler Trilogy‘ – have been selected for Cambridge Art Association’s Northeast Prize Show.. Juried by Theodore Stebbins, Curator of American Art at Harvard University’s Fogg Museum! This all media show will take place at both CAA galleries (Cambridge, MA) May 13 – June 16, 2011.
