Aunties Beads beadwork lampwork glass bead shops

First, I got some new lampwork beads from Auntie’s Beads. I absolutely LOVE the aqua blue & gold lampwork disc beads, as well as the Capri blue & tan lampwork discs. I think they will look great on a bracelet! In addition, I was sent a strand of designer ‘Bella’ lampwork beads. There is something about these that remind me of frosting on a birthday cake! :P

>New Jewelry, New Book Giveaway

>

Aside from my beaded Radio City Music Hall, I have a few other other small projects to work on, and even more swirling around in my mind! Over the weekend, I worked on my Etsy shop. I completed a new pair of dangly earrings which feature real carob leaves that have been plated in copper. These match the Falling Leaves copper freeform beaded necklace & bracelet also listed for sale in my Etsy shop. How do they look?

You’ll also notice that I listed a beaded Snowflake Lace choker in my shop. This piece is actually one of my early works. Each snowflake was woven one at a time,  then woven together to create the finished piece. This was created entirely from tiny glass seed beads & nylon thread. The snowflakes are soft & pliable, but very elegant nonetheless. Perfect for any Ice Queen or beautiful young Snow Princess! Click the pic to view the listing. I also listed my beaded Boston trolley painting, Gasoline District. You can view that listing HEREDon’t forget, there is 10%-off coupon code (posted on the sidebar of my blog) which can be used at my Etsy shop through the end of the year. In addition, layaway plans will be accepted for items priced over $200. Thanks for looking!

>Beadwork Inspired by the Beach

>

I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend! The weather has been beautiful in Boston almost all week. I have even had the chance to spend one day at the beach already! I have also been walking at least an hour per day on the beach just to get a little exercise in between beading projects.

So, my latest small work is inspired by something I saw at the beach one day. I posted a photo on my Facebook page yesterday, and some people tried to guess what it was, and finally someone got it right! It’s a parasail! One flew right over my beach chair! It was so beautiful, and a very different type of vehicle for me to bead! So, I cut out some felt, and lazy stitched some red & white seed beads. I also used some larger black & gold Czech glass beads that I got on my trip to the Czech Republic! I’m just about finished with this part. Next I will need to create a parasailer! How do you think it looks so far? :)

>Celebrating 4 Years of Blogging & 1000 Posts!

>

I just realized that my blog turned 4 years old last month! Time Flies! Also, my last post was my 1000th post! Two reasons to celebrate! So, this week, I will be running another Lark Books giveaway! Here is your chance to win a copy of Laura McCabe‘s latest book – Embellished Beadweaving!

Lark Books blogaversary giveaway Laura McCabe Beaded Embellishment artist beading beadwork bead embroidery jewelry making book

For those who may not be familiar with Laura’s beadwork, let me just say that she really was the first beader who opened my eyes to the possibilities of beading as an art form. Her works are uniquely ambitious and oddly beautiful. Embellished Beadweaving gives readers an insight into her creative soul as well as her educational background. Here’s a sneek peak:

Lark Books blogaversary giveaway Laura McCabe Beaded Embellishment artist beading beadwork bead embroidery jewelry making book

First, I love the beginning chapter entitled ‘Beads Through History’. To really gain a full understanding of the ancient craft of beading, you must first learn about its origins and why humans are continually drawn to beads.

Next, you will learn how to make some of Laura’s beaded embellishments. Instructions for these are clearly written & illustrated! Throughout the rest of the book, you will be in awe of Laura’s jewelry designs.

Learn how to make elaborate earrings, bead-encrusted bracelets, and eye-popping necklaces. And, to top it all off, you will also be inspired by the gorgeous gallery of bead art featuring other artists’ beadwork at the end of the book.

If you are fascinated by Laura’s beadwork as much as I am, or the art of beadweaving in general, then this book is for you. I promise you will not be disappointed!

>Treasured Beaded Snowflake Bag

>

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I must have been good because I got everything I wanted this year! Here’s one gift from my sister that I’d like to share with you – a vintage beaded handbag to add to my collection! The beaded snowflake pattern on this bag is coming apart from the metal frame a bit, but almost all beads are intact! It’s difficult for me to tell the age of this bag, but the tag inside says it was made in Hong Kong. I don’t think it’s very old, but it is very pretty! Perfect for the holiday season! What did you get for Christmas?? :)

beaded upside down christmas earrings artbeads.com giveaway beadwork for sale etsy the lone beader
Today, I listed a new item in my Etsy shop – a fun pair of beaded Upside Down Christmas Tree earrings! These consist of bead embroidery on felt using primarily triangle-shaped seed beads. The reason I made these was because Artbeads.com recently sent me some beautiful Cubic Zirconia beads, including the Lavender Stars in the photo above. As soon as I saw them, I wanted to use them on a Christmas tree, but when I got them, I realized that the drill-hole was going through one point of the star rather than through the entire star. So, I had to had to turn my design upside-down! Either way, the Cubic Zirconia Star adds a beautiful sparkling finish to a rather simple design idea! To view more photos of my beaded earrings, please check my Etsy listing! How do you think they look? :)

And, speaking of Artbeads.com, I would like give you the opportunity to win a $25 Email Gift Certificate to their online shop! Use it to buy beautiful beads or a jewelry-making supply that you have always dreamed of! :)
