This week, I finished a new commissioned painting featuring a beaded Wyandotte chicken! This piece consists of extreme bead embroidery stitched to a painted canvas. I used Czech & Japanese glass seed beads of all sizes. I also used Magatamas and Czech dagger beads. This bird’s feathers really move when you touch them! This piece is a small work measuring just 8″ x 8″.. My next project will be a custom beaded chicken pin.. Who knew chickens were so popular? :)

During the past couple of weeks, I have been busy working on a commissioned bead-painting. This one will feature quite a different subject than I usually bead – a Silver-Laced Wyandotte Rooster!
I started with a sketch which I used to created a template. Using the template, I cut out several layers of felt in different shapes. These layers will help create the relief aspect of my beadwork. Then, I began stitching mostly Japanese size 15 seed beads to my felt foundation (as well as a few larger beads). I used a few different grays and white, as well as red & yellow.
Once I reached the bird’s wing, I decided to try doing bead embroidery with long Magatamas! These are the large oblong shaped white beads in the photo above. I got the crazy idea to use these as feathers!
Alternating between Magatamas and size 15′s, I worked my way up the bird’s wing. Then, I switched to the smaller clear Magatamas. These are more round then the other beads, but their hole is off-center, so it creates an interesting effect.. What do you think? :D
After I completed the wings, I continued beading the rest of the rooster’s body.. BUT, I am not finished yet! Please check my Facebook page for the latest updates on this project..
Also, just a quick note to let you know that my beadwork has been featured on the Street Art United States blog. I am honored! Please stop by and take a peek!
Thank you for your interest. Back to beading! :D

This week, I finished working on a special custom order. One of the pins I made was a beaded orange & white cat named Butterscotch. He was made by stitching Japanese size 15 seed beads and 13/o charlottes to felt. I layered the beads to create a furry texture. He measures approx. 5.5cm x 5.5cm. Do you like him? Please check my Facebook page to view more beaded cats & dogs:)

Over the past week or so, I have been busy working on an order for 4 custom beaded pet pins.. Here are the first two dogs I have completed:
The first is a beaded black Labrador Retriever pin pendant. This one was made using tiny size 15 seed beads 13/0 charlottes. The ears & tail were made using a freeform peyote stitch technique. This piece measures about 4.5cm x 7cm wide…
The second is a Brindle Pit Bull pin pendant. This is the same design as my beaded Blue-Nose Pit Bull. The texture of this piece was created by layering tiny seed beads over other seed beads in several different browns. How do you think it looks? You can view progress photos of these pieces on Facebook or Instagram..
If you are interested in a custom beaded pet pin, please contact me for more details.. Next on my list: two orange & white beaded cats! :D

Beading has been keeping me busy! Last week, I received a custom order for a very special beaded dog pin – an American Eskimo Angel.
I created this unique Eskie brooch using 11/o and 15/o seed beads, as well as tiny 13/o charlottes in several different whites. I created the dog’s head first, then the wings. I stitched both pieces of beadwork together once everything was complete. The most difficult part was stitching the tiny fringe on the dog’s mane – I had to use pliers to pull the needle through the beads! I think the results are worth the effort.. It sort of looks like Native American bead embroidery to me. What do you think? I believe the spirit of this beautiful dog will now live on forever:)
Please check out more progress photos on my Facebook page. If you are interested in a custom beaded angel pin in memory of your favourite dog, please contact me through my Etsy shop. Custom orders will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Thanks for your interest in my beadwork!

Here’s a sneak peak at how I make my beaded dog pins & pendants:
First, I sketch out my design. Then, I cut out Lacy’s Stiff Stuff and a few layers of felt in different shapes. I try to envision my sketch in relief, and I decide on the shapes of felt based on that vision..
Next, I stitch on a little glass nose – for this piece, I used special 2mm glass doll eyes. Then, using tiny Japanese glass seed beads in size 15, I bead the entire piece, following the lines in my sketch.
When the first layer of beadwork is complete, I start another layer of beaded fringe. Long beaded fringe is stitched in between the rows of the first layer of beadwork. This layering adds dimension, realism, and movement to the piece. I also add any additional detailing (such as the beaded pink bow this Maltese is wearing:) and I finish by stitching on an Ultrasuede backing.
Bead embroidered Maltese pin/pendant. 3.5cm x 4cm.
The finished Maltese is a unique brooch which can also be worn as a pendant. How do you think it looks? Please click the pic to view more photos of this piece at my Etsy shop.. I think some beaded Maltese earrings are in order next! Please check my Facebook page for all the latest updates. Thanks for looking! :D
