Today, I am proud to say that I am finally finished adding a backing to my beaded motorcycle! This project wasn't easy either. It took me 3 days to complete! First, I had to find a strong wire that would support my beaded Buell. I ended up getting some 12g coated copper wire at the Home Depot down the street. It is sturdy & heavy and it requires some serious wire cutters! I cut a few pieces, and stitched them into place using needle and strong nylon thread. Then, I cut out some acid-free matte board and stitched that onto the back as well. Now, the piece feels quite substantial.

Next, I cut out 2 pieces of black Ultrasuede. I added a bit of white glue to the matte board to hold the material in place while I stitched around the bike. There is no backing for the wheels or front end of the bike, but I like how it gives a little insight regarding the methods of my madness. ;)

Your work as always is breathtaking..
This is an amazing piece. My husband was quite impressed with it (as a motorcycle lover). It's been interesting to see how you have done everything, and I'm sure I'll never have the patience to do anything even remotely like it! The thing that so impresses me is that it looks so true to scale from the front of the piece, yet when looking from the top it's very slim. I was surprised. Great job!!
The kickstand and backing worked out great! Way to go! Are you gonna try full 3D on the fire hydrant?
Thank you!! And, Judy, I was toying with the idea of 3D on the fire hydrant. We'll see what I come up with! :o
Absolutely astounding, Diane! I learn something new everytime I visit your blog.
