Well, I did end up stitching more beads to my DeLorean's stainless steel bumper. Many stitches later, you can see how dimensional it is HERE. But, that's not what I want to write about today. Instead, I want to explain my ideas for my latest adventure in bead embroidery.
As you already know, this piece is inspired by the 1985 film Back to the Future. Currently, the DeLorean time machine is my subject. I want the finished piece to consist of 3 beaded versions of the car, depicting it at different angles. I also hope to depict 3 different stages of time travel: before, during, and after the return. It will be a pop art triptych of sorts - one which I'm going to call a trilogy.

Einstein!
(Beadwork in progress. 19" x 6.5". Click to enlarge.) I believe Einstein was a Polish Lowland Sheepdog, and he was Doc Brown's dog in the movie. After Doc invented the time machine, he needed to test it, so Einstein was the test driver! According to the film, Einstein was the world's first time traveler! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the scene, you can view it here:
This parking lot scene is the inspiration for my entire piece! After watching the film, I captured this screen shot from the DVD:
Then, I printed out Einstein and cut out the shape of his head! Behind the vinyl windshield, Einstein's head measures about 5/8" wide by 1/2" tall. That's pretty small, but remember that in reality, he is far away from the bumper of the car when looking at it head on... Basically, I just want the viewer to know that Einstein is indeed in the car during all 3 stages of the piece. I have used this print-out technique before - while I was working on my beaded Datsun pickup truck - so I think it will work... at least, I hope! :o

Hey, it's so long ago that I watched it ... And I guess, I only saw the reruns of the 2nd and 3rd part. Did Einstein play a role in those parts, too? Well, I am not so much interested in pets like dogs and stuff. Maybe that's the reason ... ;)

This is wild! We just got all 3 of these movies last week from Netflix. I had forgotten what great movies they are and it was fun to watch them again after all these years. I'm going to keep an eye on your progress. I can't wait to see how this is going to look when it's complete.
