Two years of blogging is hard work! I need a vacation! So, today, I'm headed to Prague, Czech Republic. Prague, or Praha, is a city I've always wanted to visit ever since I saw that INXS video. And, when I heard they made beads there, I knew I had to go.... So, all day yesterday, I did a little preparing for my trip. One thing I was thinking about was bringing some beadwork with me to do on the flight or in the hotel. I have packed beads to go before, but usually only on road trips. I read Jean Campbell's Tips For Beading on Vacation, and was amazed at all the different ideas people had. I'm actually amazed at how many people bring beadwork to do on vacation. It seems there's so much sightseeing to do and beer to drink - when would there ever be time??
I thought about this, then I remembered Celticat. I thought, if she can make beaded dolls on the NYC subway, I can try this, too! I'm going to be away for 3 weeks, and that's a long time to go without doing any beadwork. I can't bring my beaded Boston trolley on the flight. At 19" x 7", it is way too big for traveling, not to mention, it would get crushed in my luggage...

Then, I thought maybe I could start working on another part of the piece. So, I cut out some blue and gray felt. I glued the gray felt pieces in place with some Elmer's.

The gray felt will be seen through the windows of the train. I'm not sure I like it yet, but truthfully, I'm skeptical about every idea I have... Also, it will be tough to do this beadwork without the trolley to compare it to. So, this could get interesting. If I get the chance to do any beadwork at all, I'm praying that a little beading magic will happen... :0

After I prepared my felt, I packed my pencil box to go. My travel box is lined with felt so my beads don't bounce around. Inside, there are seed beads, beading needles, Nymo thread, Thread Heaven, and nail clippers to cut the thread. I think I have everything! Now, I just hope it fits in my carry-on! I will miss everyone, but I hope to return with new inspiration, many photos, and lots of beads! Also, if you'd like to see some of the sights with me while I'm away, please visit my mobile blog... See you soon! :D

We've done our Six Word Memoir at last, sorry we are so slack at the moment.
Have a wonderful time in Prague, I was fortunate to visit there about 10 years ago and had a blast. I liked the food and LOVED the beer (the best!). I had not started my love affair with beads at that time, but I did find some wonderful blown glass to bring home. I found some great leather stuff as well.
Ahhhh - the bridge tower and the castle lit up at night, a stroll across the Charles Bridge, man I wish I was going. Will you visit the Globe cafe?
I spent most of my visit in Liberec (northern Bohemia) and I would love to go back some day.
Have a blast! I look forward to hearing about it and seeing some photos.
Have a great time. I wish I was going with you! ;-)
I am late checking in, but I hope you have a blast!
Have a great time!
Smadar :)
Your packed pencil box to go looks great! I don't leave on any trip without some art work. Most of the time I don't find the time to do any, but I'd regret the day that I had some time and not my stuff! If you find the time to put down a few beads, you will always remember where you were when you stitched them! ;-)
Enjoy each minute and have the time of your life!
Have a wonderful time in Praha! That was one place I didn't get to go while stationed in Germany, and I wish I would have. Keep us posted!
