Yesterday, I finally had the chance to start adding a backing to my blue beaded bus. Sounds easy, but since the piece is an odd shape, it's a challenge. First, I cut out a small strip of Ultrasuede, and began to stitch it around the nose of the bus.

Next, I started to stitch on a clear piece of vinyl. This piece will cover the open end of the bus, ONLY. It is sewn to the back side of the beadwork, so you cannot see it from the front.

The clear vinyl will create a window so that viewers can have a 'behind the scenes' look of one of my pieces. I'm hoping this will give them an idea of the time my work takes to create, although I'm not sure art critics would approve... or would they??

Why wouldn't they approve?
You put soooo many hours into your bus. Why not give some of the none beaders out there a chance to see just what it looks like.
Personally I wouldn't have any idea at all what the back of a beaded bus would look like if it wasn't for you and these pictures.
to bad I just can't get a close up in person view of it. Or can I....humm El Camino road trip! ;)
It's about time you got back to work. ;)
Wonderful work! I just love your bus! *HUGS*
the person who has the gumption to look at that cool bus, and see all the teeny tiny beads sewn on to it and has the nerve to say it wouldn't take a long time to make needs a serious reality check. that said, i like the idea of the window, it's cool to see how its built.
I don't know if they'll approve or not. Sometimes this is an around the table craft that we all share and sometimes it is a business where some artist's horde their secrets. Only occasionally do I want to horde any secrets and I love the whole idea of seeing behind the scenes. A lot of people have no idea of the months such a large piece entails.
You always amaze me. You are so painstaking and detail conscious, achieving exactly what your mind's eye sees, and your work is so absolutely cool and beautiful. It's neat that you show us many of the details of how you do what you do.
who cares what art critics say. i love your work. and next time i write a post (don't know when) i'm going to post a link on my post to your site.
Very cool - I like interactive art!!
yeah,
gotta agree
with foam here --
we don't do it for critics,
so why worry about what they do or don't think
your work is amazing, lonesome one!
/t.
Thanks for all the comments. I love reading all your responses... I only create for myself, but sometimes that can be tough because afterall, I am my own critic... LOL.
