Jump

On Monday, after I depicted what it would look like if professional stunt driver Spanky Spangler jumped my beaded fire truck over the Charles River, a man named Brian emailed me. Brian happens to be a Hollywood stuntman, as well as Kaptain Robbie Knievel's bodyguard. Robbie Knievel has set at least 20 records jumping his motorcycle, while following the footsteps of his daredevil father, Evel Knievel.

In Brian's email, he had said that Robbie is scheduled to jump next week in Raleigh, NC at the North Carolina International Auto Expo. Turns out that Spanky is Robbie's Stunt Coordinator, so he'll be there, as well. I was thrilled to hear this, and I asked Brian to tell Spanky that I mentioned him... Well, today, Brian sent me another email. He said that he spoke with Spanky and that he said to try to get someone to seriously look into doing a promotion. Spanky would love to jump in Boston, and he'd put on a great show=:)

So, how do we get Spanky Spangler to come to Boston? We need Ernie Boch, Jr.'s car dealership to do a promotion of some sort. It's been awhile since we had an event like this here. The last time I can remember was in April of 1998 when Bubba Blackwell jumped his bike in front of the Harley Davidson/Buell dealership in Everett, MA. Over 30,000 people watched as Bubba cleared 20 cars on his Harley XR-750 and broke a record that was previously held by Evel Knievel. I think it would be cool if either Spanky or Robbie could come to town and jump for a Boston Firefighter's Benefit... perhaps at the New England Patriots home opener at Gillette Stadium??

Bob Kraft, here's what it would look like if Spanky Spangler jumped his car over a row of vintage fire trucks. Pretty cool, huh?? =:)

Also, take a look at my beaded 1943 Chevy fire truck. First, I added another piece of sterling silver wire around the windshield. Then, I replaced the railing on the truck bed with a twisted piece of wire. (I was really improvising there..) Next, I created the 2 roof lights. They are made out of 20 gauge sterling silver wire, and beading on Ultrasuede. After I created them, I stitched them to the back of the piece.

Lastly, I designed the side view mirror, and this took quite awhile. I stitched sterling silver bugle beads to both sides of a piece of Lacy's Stiff Stuff. Then, I stitched it to a piece of 20 gauge sterling silver wire. I also used a sterling silver earring finding for the small circular mirror; I'm not sure I like it, but there it is... Then, I slipped the ends of the wire in between the seed beads, and stitched the whole thing into place. What do you think?? (Click images to enlarge)

Can you believe there are still a few more details to add before I move on to the Dalmatian??=:0

The twisted wire for the rail in the back is definitely more substantial. It's looking good! Can't wait to see the dalmation! :)

That is one GREAT firetruck!!

I'm not a particular fan of anybody roaring around and spinning up dirt while wasting gas to impress a crowd, but I do love your beaded representation.

Great stuff, LB.

"Will the truck get a background?"

This truck will get no background. Actually, the truck will be the background for the Dalmatian... I have a plan (or vision, at least) to make it even more 3-dimensional when I construct the finished piece... Wish me luck=:)

To me, car & motorcycle stunts are just another form of show biz. I think they're particularly cool if the proceeds benefit a charity=:)

Love it all...only suggestion is for the two red lights on the top of the cab...how about a couple of bright red Swarovski crystals? They'd really flash!

How cool is that? I guess it's a good lesson...we never know who will be reading our blogs do we?

Your truck is probably one of my faves.

Oh Yeah! I believe. But I think the twisted wire is good. I love the mirror except for the earring and that was because I didn't realize what it was. I think your roof lights are great, I like the addition to you fender light, It looks great!

Kaptain Robbie is KICK ASS!!! I've followed his and his father's careers for as long as I can remember! They are so cool! Kaptain Robbie should come to Long Island and jump over the Grucci Fireworks plant while they blow off fireworks in the near vicinity! or maybe jump over a moving subway train! Oh, now you've gone and gotten me all excited for stunts! LOL!

Being a NY'er and a Yankee fan, I thought of several jokes that all revolved around someone jumping out of Boston...hehehe...but that wouldn't be very nice so I withheld them all.

Have a nice weekend, LB!
